Myths
There are a number of acne myths that we would like to dispel. Lies about acne have been disseminated at the speed of light throughout centuries and up to this day many people believe them. Apparently, if you repeat something over and over again, it becomes a fact over time.
The list below includes he so-called folk wisdom, passed from generation to generation.
- Washing face often enough will prevent acneAcne is a combination of differnet things, but it is never caused by dirt. Plugging hair follicles is done from inside out; not by external factoors, such as dirt. Washing can even further aggravate the condition.
- Acne is caused by chocolate Although there are many skin conditions caused by poor diet, there is no scientific evidence that chocolate causes acne. It is possible, however, that symptoms of acne may be relieved by a special diet that scientists are yet to discover.
- Acne is only teenagers’ problemAcne can affect both teenagers, adolescence, and adults. Acne is more common among teenagers, but it does not mean that other age groups cannot develop it.
- Cosmetics cause acneMost modern cosmetics do not clog your pores.
- Exposure to sun cures acne. Exposure to sun irritates your skin. Sunburn may actually conceal acne red spots, but it will also deteriorate your condition in a long run.
