Types of acne

Not all pimples are the same; they can take many forms. In genaral, there are two types of acne:

Non-Inflammatory Acne

There are two types of non-inflammatory acne:

Whitehead (closed comedo)

A whitehead is formed by the trapped sebum and bacteria.They may show as tiny white spots or they may be invisible to the naked eye.

Blackhead (open comedo)

A blackhead occurs when the pore opens to the surface, and the sebum, which contains the skin pigment melanin, oxidizes and turns a brown/black color.

Inflammatory Acne

A pustule appear after white blood cells have made

their way to the surface of the skin.

Papule

A papule appear after the follicle wall has broken.

Nodule

Large nodules are often called tumors. Skin tumors may be benign or malignant.

Sometimes a severe inflammatory reaction can result in very large pus filled lesions.
